Strategic planning: prioritisation and pathway improvement

This module was designed to provide delegates with the opportunity to learn about strategic planning in NHS commissioning. It was designed for people who were familiar with the basic principles of commissioning and who wished to refresh and share their knowledge in key elements of strategic planning.

Delegates were introduced to the processes behind health needs analysis and prioritisation. The session also looked at different approaches for pathway analysis, demand-side and supplier-side analysis.

By the end of this workshop, delegates would expect to understand:

• The main elements behind strategic planning and prioritisation
• A range of appropriate tools and techniques associated with pathway redesign strategies

And be able to:

• Identify appropriate strategic planning processes in preparation for future pathway redesign in the NHS
