Implementation team

Dr Chris Harrison was appointed medical director at The Christie, one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, in June 2006. He has a long standing interest in the development of cancer services and improvements in clinical quality. He has led the implementation of a new strategic framework to further improve the quality of care for patients at The Christie.

“London is a great city with areas of excellence in cancer services. The work of my clinical colleagues in the capital over recent months has shown that not all patients who use London’s cancer services can expect this level of excellence.

“I am keen to share my experience from outside of London to make the proposed changes to cancer services here in London a reality. Early diagnosis of cancer is proven to save lives and we must address this. I am thrilled to be part of this process and look forward to working with the London cancer community to achieve it.”

Rachel Tyndall has 20 years of experience in NHS commissioning, and was previously the chief executive of the North Central London Sector.

“We have made good progress in improving cancer services in London in recent years but there is more to do if our outcomes are to match the best in the world. We believe the proposals developed by clinicians and patients over the last 18 months will go a long way to improving these outcomes.

“I look forward to working with clinicians and patients over the next two years to implement these changes. We will make sure that patients and the public are kept informed of our progress and have a say in the decisions affecting their health services.”

The implementation programme, led by Chris and Rachel will be supported by an implementation team, comprising the management teams of London’s existing cancer networks and a team from London Health Programmes.

The early diagnosis implementation group, made up of representatives from cluster commissioners, primary care leads, cancer networks, screening, public health, LHIB and others, have been tasked with implementing actions and interventions arising from; Improving Outcomes: A Strategy for Earlier Diagnosis of Cancer in London.

As part of this work the following papers have been developed to assist CCGs and primary care colleagues improve early diagnosis across London.
